HCCF Unrestricted Fund

Help leverage $500,000 into our community....

Lilly Endowment Inc., based in Indianapolis, has challenged community foundations throughout the state to participate in a match program called Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow. One of the criteria for receiving the matching funds requires the Foundation to raise $500,000 from the community by March 31, 2016. To date, the Foundation is $110,000 away from meeting the challenge. With a minimum gift of $2,500, donors are able to create a "Builder's Fund" to carry on the name of a loved one or reflect a family's tradition of service. Any amount donated will assist us with meeting the challenge. Contact the Foundation at 812-738-6668 for more information.

Provides financial support for the general needs of the foundation including operations and unrestricted grant making.

Fund Story
During the summer of 1996, Harrison County Commissioners Ed Emily, Kenny Saulman, and Terry Miller created the Harrison County Community Foundation by agreement with Caesars Indiana and the State of Indiana Gaming Commission. We are a public foundation established for the receipt of donations and the distribution of income from permanent endowment funds for the philanthropic purposes of Harrison County.

In November 1996, the initial twenty-one member board of directors began meeting to establish the structure and methodology to serve the organization's intent and mission. In the fall of 1997, the first grants were announced totaling $116,500. The evolution and growth of the Foundation continues. Grant making to the community now exceeds $76,000,000 with major projects including the YMCA of Harrison County, South Harrison Athletic Corporation, House of New Beginnings, Inc., Harrison County Hospital, South Harrison Community Center, and the Harrison County Government Center. In addition to scholarships and semi-annual grant making, HCCF continually seeks new and creative ways to serve our community.

Created by generous contributions from our citizens, the Foundation has over 230 charitable funds that benefit our residents. These funds provide scholarships, benefit the American Cancer Society, provide childrens books at the Harrison County Public Libraries and much more. While created by individuals, corporations or a not-for-profit agency, our endowment funds may be added to at any time. The Foundation continues to offer a dollar for dollar match to donations up to $50,000, per household per year. An endowment with the HCCF may be created with a minimum donation of $5,000 and we charge no administration fees.

The Foundation board of directors represents all geographical regions of Harrison County and various professional backgrounds. Additional representation comes from a Community Volunteer group established in 2012.

The Foundation has six staff members; President & CEO Steve Gilliland, Director of Programs Heather Stafford, Grants Manager Anna Curts, Director of Finance Derrick Grigsby, Director of Development Kim Harmon, and Administrative Assistant Sarah Travis. Our staff is always available to help with grant applications, charitable giving, creating an endowment fund or just to update you on the Foundation's work.

Their web site, www.hccfindiana.org, contains a variety of information such as a complete list of our charitable endowment and scholarship funds, a complete history of our grant making and our Board of Directors names and area of representation.

Your gifts to the Foundation will serve the community as long as there is someone who calls Harrison County home.
